The desk had seventeen users on a vendor portfolio-monitoring platform costing six figures a year, plus the Bloomberg Server API it required. We replaced it with a system built around the desk’s own workflow: real-time P&L across the book from live Bloomberg prices, capital structure, fund and index performance, full trade history and charting, an options monitor, and commission tracking by broker and fund — plus fixes for swap unit-cost and cross-currency FX P&L the old system got wrong.
It cut the annual running cost to about a third of the old platform’s, with no user cap and no per-seat licence — and paid for itself inside twelve months.
